Script to compare table counts...

Hello all,

I am very new to unix.

I am working on a DB upgrade. The requirement is to get count of all the tables in the database before and after upgrade and compare them.

I found the below query to find the counts of all the tables:
nawk -v v="'" '{ print("select " v ":" $1":" v "||count(*) from "$1";"); }' tablenames > count.sql

which gives output like:
:table1:20
:table2:30
:table3:40
etc...

I plan to run this before and after upgrade and compare the two results.

Now, How do I compare these two files to find out the discrepencies in count?

I would add a "|sort" before sending them to count.sql.
Then I would "diff" the two files - one from before and one after.
That would then display the table, the before count and the after count.

Code:
diff <(sort before_count.sql) <(sort after_count.sql)
