Dear all,

I'm trying to write a script where:

A file contains more or less 2000 lines. To some of those lines, in a specific position, let's say 89-92 there are spaces. So, this script should find these spaces on specific position and update a value (from 2 to 1) to another position of the same line, position 729.

Maybe i can use grep and cut to find spaces but i'm not very sure how to update the value from 2 to 1.

I'm just a beginner and i just know the basics..

For example this is what i've got:

2012123120110 10152115676 1030049900 2 (space position 79), (2 position 729)

I want it to be like:

2012123120110 10152115676 1030049900 1 (if space in position 79 then update 2 to 1, in position 729)

Any comments would be very helpful...

I actually run following command but i got an error:

awk: The field 729 must be in the range 0 to 199.
The source line number is 1.
The error context is
{if ($80=" ") >>> $729 <<< ="1"}1

I think I'm not able to get the value of 200th field using awk.

Can you please help me?
