Shell Programming and Scripting

Hi All,

I have scheduled a script to run every five minutes through crontab. If there is any issue with the script which may need manual intervention, I have used the mailx commands. But at the same time, I would want the cron to be disabled until the issue is resolved. Once things are fine, then the cron entry may be updated manually. Is there any way I can make this happen?

You could use a file as a semaphore, something like:

file="issuefile"
if [ -e "$file" ]
then
  exit 1
fi

.
.

if [ ..something goes wrong.. ]
then
  mailx.....
  touch "issuefile"
  exit 1
fi

Just delete the "issuefile" once the issue is resolved.
