Read contents from a file

Hi Friends,

I am new to this forum. Just struck up with a logic.

I have a csv file seperated by ":" (colons).

This csv file contains hostname and groups as follows:
Code:
HOSTNAME:VT Group
SGSGCT2AVPX001:Team1
SGSGCT2AVPX003:Team2
SGSGCT2AVPX005:Team2
PHMNCTTAVPX001:Team3

I want to write a script where by it matches with the incoming "HOSTNAME" with the hostname this is in the csv file. Temporarily I have set a HOSTNAME as SGSGCT2AVPX005 so that it will match only the third record and get the hostname and corresponding group "Team2" to a variable.

I did a small work but not sure how to get the corresponding matching group.
Code:
#!/bin/sh
set -x
hostname="SGSGCT2AVPX005"
PD=/opt/Tivoli/custom/bin
LOOKUP=$PD/pbx.txt
hname=`cat $LOOKUP | awk -F ":" ' NR > 1 {print $1}'`
#vtgrp=`cat $LOOKUP | awk -F ":" ' NR > 1 {print $2}'`
for a in $hname;
do
  echo $a
  if [ $hostname = $a ]; then
    vtgrp=`cat $LOOKUP | awk -F ":" ' NR > 1 {print $2}'`
  fi
done

I want to know how to get the corresponding matching group for the hostname. Any logic should be sufficient.

Thanks & Regards,
Dinesh

Through subshell and external commands:
Code:
vtgrp=$(awk -F: '$1==h{print $2}' h=$hostname "$LOOKUP")

Code:
vtgrp=$(sed -n "/^$hostname:/s/.*://p" "$LOOKUP")

Trhrough external commands and pipe
Code:
vtgrp=$(grep "^$hostname:" "$LOOKUP" | cut -d: -f2)

Through shell builtin read command
Code:
while IFS=: read h v
do
  if [ "$h" = "$hostname" ]; then
    vtgrp=$v
  fi
done < "$LOOKUP"
