hi, im trying to some data but only certain ones.
like for instance "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "\$123 456.52"
and i would like the filtered line to be "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "\$123456.52"
By reading each line and finding the character $ then deleteing any spaces in between $ and the decimal.

I tried "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "\$123 456.52" | sed '/\$[0-9.*]/,/./ s/ //g'
Any help would be appreciaited thanks.

$ echo "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa" "\$123 456.52" | sed 's/\($[0-9]*\)  */\1/'
aaaaaaaaaaaaaa $123456.52

(Note, there are two space before the asterisk)

will not cover the case with "n" space in a number like

"$123 456 789 123 456 789.52"

... depending on how does the whole line look like you could maybe use smthg like

Awesome i been stomped the past few days on this particular problem. Um there's only gonna be one space in this data sorting. But both method does work. I really appreciate the help guys. Cheers

If you have a fixed number of space and you know the one you want to remove is the second one, then you can go for
