My First Bash Script

Hello,

This is a very simple script I put together. I would like it to do more but I am stuck. If anyone can help me out with ideas that would be awesome.

Data File: MetaIP_Domain_List
Code:
yahoo.com
ymail.com
live.com
msn.com

++

Script: whoisdomains.sh
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# whoisdomains.sh
# This script checks the whois database and will return only the domains belonging for the company queried.

rm -f outips;

while read line;
do
     echo $line;
     whois $line | grep "Yahoo" | uniq;
done<MetaIP_Domain_List

exit 0

++

Result:
Code:
yahoo.com
        Yahoo! Inc.
ymail.com
        Yahoo! Inc.
live.com
msn.com

-------
I would like the result to show only the Yahoo! Inc. domains without the rest of the domains like live.com and msn.com. Thanks a lot!

Try:

whois $line | grep "Yahoo" | uniq | grep "Inc\.";

Let me explain further:

------
whois $line: Will do a whois to multiple domains... In this example, I am only interested on the domains belonging to Yahoo Inc. That is the reason why I do a grep every time I query a domain. I would like the result to have the company name Yahoo Inc. and it's domains Smilie

This is an example of a whois at yahoo./com:
Code:
Registrant:
        Domain Administrator
        Yahoo! Inc.
        701 First Avenue
         Sunnyvale CA 94089
        US

    Administrative Contact:
        Domain Administrator
        Yahoo! Inc.
        701 First Avenue
         Sunnyvale CA 94089
        US

    Domain servers in listed order:

    ns4.yahoo./com
    ns3.yahoo./com
    ns1.yahoo./com
    ns5.yahoo./com
    ns2.yahoo./com

--------------------------

The script prints _all_ domains because of the line:
echo $line;

to print only necessary domains you should write something like:

Code:
while read line;
do
echo $line;
    REG=whois $line | grep "Yahoo" | uniq
    [ "x$REG" != "x" ] && echo $line $REG
done
