Hi
Sorry to trouble ...
This is my actual code

Code:

nawk -F"|" -v var1="${v_projectname}" -v var2="${v_networkid}" ' {
fn=length($1)==4?"ADDR\_":"SLICE\_"
print > "ABS_" fn "_" var1 "_" var2 ".txt"
}' abs_spoolfile.txt

and the error what I am getting is as below

nawk: syntax error at source line 3
context is
print > "ABS_" >>> fn <<< "_" var1 "_" var2 ".txt"
nawk: illegal statement at source line 3

I wonder where I am making mistake...This time I typed entire statement rather copying from the given help
regards
JC

Try:
Code:
fn=(length($1)==4)?"ADDR":"SLICE"

Hi
I even tried the way as suggested, but I am getting the same error

Code:

nawk -F"|" -v var1="${v_projectname}" -v var2="${v_networkid}" ' {
fn=(length($1)==4)?"ADDR":"SLICE"
print > "ABS_" fn "_" var1 "_" var2 ".txt"
}' abs_spoolfile.txt

nawk: syntax error at source line 3
context is
print > "ABS_" >>> fn <<< "_" var1 "_" var2 ".txt"
nawk: illegal statement at source line 3

Regards

remarkable, this then?
Code:
nawk -F"|" -v var1="${v_projectname}" -v var2="${v_networkid}" ' {
  fn="ABS_" (length($1)==4?"ADDR":"SLICE") "_" var1 "_" var2 ".txt"
  print > fn
}' infile

could you also try it with /usr/xpg4/bin/awk instead of nawk, or are you not on Solaris?
