One more question
Code:
sed 's|\(....\)\(..\)\(..\)\(..\)\(..\)\(..\)|systemname_instancename;\1/\2/\3;\4:\5:\6:|' infile >out.txt

out.txt file is created, i see carriage return characters, but those has to be replace by newline

Thanks

If you see CR characters in out.txt, that means they were already present in the input file. So I would look there. Probably the input file was transferred from a Microsoft platform and it wasn't properly converted to Unix format.

You can search for it on this forum, there are many solutions. One way would be to go:
Code:
tr -d '\r' < dosfile > unixfile

But there is also dos2unix etcetera...

I have checked the out file created after adding the additional field (done with the above SED command), the CR characters are there from second line at start. here it is

The original file doesn't have any CR character, i digged a bit into my program and i found the issue is here

i using the current cmd

echo \\machinename\drive\logs\folder\farm\instance\| cut -f 3,8 -d \|sed s/\\/_/g > tmp1.out

when i checked the tmp1.out file i see CR character at the end
machinename_instance[CR]
