probably simple SED-command ...

Hello,

I've got a problem with SED. It's my intention to shorten a file path (removing the file name) with the help of SED. Something like:

tmp\folder1\folder2\blah.txt has to be transformed to
tmp\folder1\folder2\.

I suppose, it's on the tip of my tongue. Perhaps it's close to:

sed 's/\\.*/\\/g'. This command unfortunately reveals: tmp\.

I'd appreciate your help.

Are there really backslashes in the path? Otherwise, you might use the dirname command.

Yes, there are "Backslashes". But it's not a problem:

T=`echo /tmp/folder1/folder2/test.txt | sed 's/\\\/\//g'`
dirname "$T" | sed 's/\//\\\//g'`

... is all I need.

Much thanks to you. Bye Sysadv
