Do you mean like this:

grep "'"'"${ETL_VW_SCHEMA}"'"'\.PROJ$" infile

it is a bit of a puzzle Smilie. Perhaps you rather just do this:

grep '${ETL_VW_SCHEMA}.*\.PROJ$' infile

hmm..the below one...?

grep -w '\.PROJ' inputfile

# 10

grep '${ETL_VW_SCHEMA}.*\.PROJ$' *.ksh
