Multiples commands between pipes and a single process

Hi

I have this script:

Code:
#!/bin/ksh
cmd1 | cmd 2 |cmd 3| cmd4

which it creates 4 process....

Is possible to create a single process PID1 which include all commands?

Thanks
Israel

No, what exactly are you trying to achieve?

Mostly no. shell builtins like read and echo will do what you want but in general the shell has to execute external executables in a separate shell

Try this each command is in the same pid.
Code:
echo "hi there $$" | read var && echo "$var $$" | read var && echo "$var $$"
