Helping with similar "read -t" for KSH file

Hi all,

I've trying to apply this command into my .ksh file, but UNIX doesn't accept this option.

I need wait a few seconds (maybe 20sec. is very well).

Could you please help me?

code:
#!/bin/ksh
....
....
....
read -t 20 continue_run

if [[ ! ne contunue_run ]]; then;continue_run='N'
fi
...
...
Thanks in advance

Hi.

The version of ksh that I use suggests that this is one way to use read option "-t":
Code:
#!/usr/bin/env ksh

# @(#) s1	Demonstrate timed interactive read in ksh.

echo
export LC_ALL=C
echo "Environment: LC_ALL = $LC_ALL"
echo "(Versions displayed with local utility \"version\")"
version >/dev/null 2>&1 && version "=o" $(_eat $0 $1)
echo

if ! read -t 5 x?" Enter a value, time-out 5 seconds: "
then
  x="timed out"
fi

print
print " x is \"$x\""

exit 0

producing for a timed-out read:
Code:
$ ./s1

Environment: LC_ALL = C
(Versions displayed with local utility "version")
OS, ker|rel, machine: Linux, 2.6.26-2-amd64, x86_64
Distribution        : Debian GNU/Linux 5.0
ksh 93s+

 Enter a value, time-out 5 seconds:
 x is "timed out"

and for entering keystrokes including an enter:
Code:
$ ./s1

Environment: LC_ALL = C
(Versions displayed with local utility "version")
OS, ker|rel, machine: Linux, 2.6.26-2-amd64, x86_64
Distribution        : Debian GNU/Linux 5.0
ksh 93s+

 Enter a value, time-out 5 seconds: yy

 x is "yy"

If your version of ksh differs, then the results might differ.

Best wishes ...cheers, drl

If you are on a commercial Unix OS such as Solaris, HP-UX or AIX the default Korn shell does not support the -t option. As well as /usr/bin/ksh, AIX does include /usr/bin/ksh93 OOTB which does support the -t option.
