Not able to check for entry within file

Hi

I am basically checking if a required entry exists within a file. In the code below I am fetching all directories of the format rel1, rela, rel3..etc..The same entries also exist in the sample log file. I want to check if entry in file1 exists within file2 but it is failing. Can you please help?

Code:
cd /ABC
ls -ld rel* | awk '{print $9}' > /tmp/file1
cat /XYZ/sample.log | awk '{print $3}' > /tmp/file2
for fname in `cat /tmp/file1`
do
if [ grep -Fq "$fname" /tmp/file2 ]
then
echo "Entry exists"
else
echo "Entry doesn't exist"
fi
done

What is failing?
(Looks like the if condition...)

might be because it is going to the else part even though there is an entry in the file

Can you try this without the "-q" option on grep to see if you get any useful error messages printed out?
