I am trying to modify the file using "sed" editor and the command fails due to the fact that the variable I use contains "/" (slashes). Here is the example:

v=1
back_dir="/ts/data"

$ sed "s/\/t${v}\/data/${back_dir}/" /tmp/f323odb.lrl.alt
sed: command garbled: s/\/t1\/data//ts/data/

You can use whatever delimiter you like... so:

v=1
back_dir="/ts/data"

$ sed "s:/t${v}/data:${back_dir}:" /tmp/f323odb.lrl.alt

The reason why your original attempt failed is because you extra evaluation happening because of the double quotes... so either you have to do extra escaping, or use the technique I'm showing here.
