Strings not matching
Hi,
I have got two variables holding strings, if i echo them, they print the same value but if i compare the condition fails?? can somebody suggest something?? I have checked the word count too, they are also same.

Maybe your string containt whitespace or not printable characters. Try to inspect the strings with:

echo "$STRING1" | od -c
echo "$STRING2" | od -c

Thanks. I see that first string contains a space as a first character. Can you suggest how to remove the spaces existing anywhere in the string??

That depends on the shell you are using. In bash and ksh93 you can use
Code:
STRING="${STRING// /}"

In other shells you can write
Code:
STRING=`echo $STRING | tr -d ' '`

In C programming how do i check if a char is equal to a vowel , like a e i o or u, small or big case. in my function i have the parameter like *word, and i am using word in a for loop, to check if its equal. i use tolower(word)=='a' || ..... but for some reason it only matches on lower case and...
