Because I don't really know what it should look like Smilie If you want me to reformat this output a little, post real lines of your log file, output you are getting and output you want to get.

Actually that format is fine, another request if you don't mind.

As you already know the format... I will be getting 2 parameters which is the start time and end time, and I need to pull up any lines that are in between, inclusive.

for example:

starttime: "2010-07-19 10:29:00" (exact format)
end time: "2017-07-19-10:30:00" (exact format)

then I would need to get the lines of such dates from that date, 10:29 to 10:30... I think this is really complicated, a lead in the direction to approach this would be really greatful.

problem in the return of grep

hi, i am running this command inside the script var=`grep -il $1 "${logdir}"* | xargs grep -ivl adding | xargs grep -ivl equation | xargs ls -ctr | tail -1` in that grep will find the latest logfile for the variable "$" if it fnd the logfile, then it reutrns the filename to the var if... (1 Reply)
