Hi Zaggyzig, so if I understand you correctly, your file is tab separated and the fields may contains spaces and the output should also be tab separated?

Try this:

awk 'BEGIN{FS=OFS="\t"} NR==1{for(i=2;i<=NF;i++)ARGV[ARGC++]=ARGV[1]}
     FNR==1{print x;c++}{printf "%s"OFS,$c}END{print x}' infile
