-I requires a replacement string, -i defaults it to {}.

Since I said it was deprecated, I can't find that in any man pages. Perhaps I was imagining it Smilie

But there's no reference to the option in the FreeBSD man pages, or the POSIX man pages. Although this about xargs says it's OK, so it's OK, if it's available!

The SUSE 11.x man page for xargs lists -i as being deprecated.

I believe what is happening is rm is executing in the script on every directory and on failure of the first it stops although returns status 0. find $HOME -name /directory/filename | xargs -l rm This is the code I use but file remains. I'm using Imagemagick to create thumbnails for a large directory tree. The only thing I can't see is how to get it to write the thumbnails to a "thumbs" subdirectory!
