how to give names to fields
Hi,

one of the queries has given the output in the following format:
Code:
1330 2130 2330

how do I assign a name to each of these fields to make the output appear in the following format
Code:
Mon 1330
Tue 2130
Wed 2330

In bash you could do something like:
Code:
$> declare -a array
$> array=( Mon Tue Wed )
$> z=0; for a in 1330 2130 2330; do echo ${array[$z]} $a; let z=$z+1; done
Mon 1330
Tue 2130
Wed 2330

If it is in a file (query.out for example) you could do:

$> declare -a array
$> array=( Mon Tue Wed )
$> z=0; while read LINE; do echo ${array[$z]} $LINE; let z=$z+1; done < query.out
Mon 1330
Tue 2130
Wed 2330

thanks zaxxon but am using korn shell. could you tell me if there is an alternative please?

Korn shell arrays are declared like:
Code:
set -A array Mon Tue Wed

So delete the 1st and 2nd line (declare... array=...) and use the one above. Rest stays the same.
