replace cat huge_multiplefiles |sort |uniq -c

Does any one know any command runs faster than this to give duplicate numbers

cat file1 file2 ....file 100 | sort |uniq -c

thanx

no need for cat. might help some

awk '{a[$0]++}END {for i in a) print a[i],i}' file*

If you just want to know which lines are duplicated, "uniq -d" will be much quicker than "uniq -c".

Depending on the actual file sizes there can be a spectacular improvement by sorting each file individually then finally using the merge function "sort -m" once.
