You didn't make any changes based on the previous code I posted.

I changed that code for a reason - because the code you posted does not work.

i changed the code

Code:
awk -v X="$Y" -v M="$N" -v str="$K"
{
if [str='1'] then {
if ($0 ~ X ) { sub (xyz.*/,"xyz",$0) }
if ($0 ~ M/ ) { sub (xyz.*/,"xyz",$0) }
}
print 0
}, filename > temp

i am not sure how to use str .

Code:
awk -v X="$Y" -v M="$N" -v str="$K" ' # added ' at end of line
{
if (str=="1") {  # removed "then", change [ ] to ( ), replaced ' ' with " " and changed = to ==
  if ( $0 ~ X ) sub (/xyz.*/,"xyz",$0) # added / before xyz
  if ( $0 ~ M ) sub (/xyz.*/,"xyz",$0)  # remove / afer $0 ~ M and added / before xyz
}
{ # Added this line
print $0 # Added $
}' filename > temp # replaced , after } with '
