sed help,to replace the last character

cat input.txt
Code:
agsbdafgd
ertebrtreter
ahrbrwerg

The last character of a line that does not start with a would be changed to Z.
Final output:
Code:
agsbdafgd
ertebrtreteZ
ahrbrwerg

Can anyone post the sed command to do that?

If awk is an option, try this
Code:
awk '/^[^a]/ { sub(/.$/,"Z"); print; next } { print }' inputfile

or this
Code:
awk '{ if ($0 ~ /^[^a]/) sub(/.$/,"Z"); print}' inputfile
