On my box there is a character class for tr called :print:
- I've seen it on other versions of Unix, I think, as well?

smilies disabled so we can see the :p ---- Perderabo

Looking at my docs, in the posix locale, the difference is alnum,space, punct will get 5 more characters than print by itself:
<form-feed>
<newline>
<carriage-return>
<tab>
<vertical-tab>
