Hello,
I have been working on Awk/sed one liner which counts the number of occurrences of '|' in pipe separated lines of file and delete the line from files if count exceeds "17".
i.e need to get records having exact 17 pipe separated fields(no more or less)

I Have a text file with several thousand lines of text.
Occasionally there will be a "sysAlive" line of text (every so often)
What would be an awk command to print every line of text, and to put in incrementing counter ONLY on the "sysAlive" lines
For example:

I have to append the word count of a file at the end of the file name like this - > "filename_2345" where 2345 is the word count of "filename". How do i achieve this using one command ? I am not allowed to store the word count in a variable and then concatenate. Request your... (1 Reply)

I need to append the total line count to the end of each line in a file.

Alright, I think I know what I am doing with sed(which probably means I don't). But I cant figure out how to replace just the first occurance of a string. I have tried sed, ed, and grep but can't seem to figure it out. If you have any suggestions I am open to anything! (3 Replies)
