Java Displaying Script command with output

How do you display the script command for a particular output result? Is there an editor that will allow for an echo or sysout of the script that causes an output result? We have hundreds of lines in the script, which we would like to see along with the output, and don't want to have to put in displays in every line manually.

Thankyou in advance...

you could try set -x.

man set

SYNOPSIS
sh
set [ --aefhkntuvx [ argument ] ] ...

unset [ name ... ]

export [ name ... ]

csh
set [ var [ = value ] ]

set var [ n ] = word

unset pattern

setenv [ VAR [ word ] ]

unsetenv variable

ksh
set [ +aefhkmnopstuvx ] [ +o option ] ... [ +A name ] [
arg ... ]

unset [ -f ] name ...

**export [ name [ =value ] ] ...

Hi JeDi

can you please post a sample how you acheived this. I am confused about what exactly you asked here.

Thanks in advance

Sure:

All that was done was to put -x on the command line (of the Bourne Shell). This put all the commands and arguments out to the terminal. This was very helpful. -y will put just the commands and not the arguments to the terminal.

If anybody knows how to force this output to the standard out rather than the terminal, this would be exactly what we need.

Thanks.

"exec 2>&1"or a command line like
sh -x somescript > outputfile 2>&1

but the 2>&1 is the secret.
