If you want to keep the ., remove the . from .html.

Code:
$ basename /home/Desktop/example/audio.html html
audio.

Keeping leading dot (.) from the extension:
Code:
echo "/home/Desktop/example/audio.html" | sed 's/.*\././'
echo "/home/Desktop/example/audio.html" | awk -F. '{print "."$NF}'

Removing leading dot (.) from the extension:
Code:
echo "/home/Desktop/example/audio.html" | sed 's/.*\.//'
echo "/home/Desktop/example/audio.html" | awk -F. '{print $NF}'
