awk... what is wrong?
Hi there,
what is wrong with this?

Code:
grep ">>" alarms_temp | awk '{print substr($5, 2), $7}' | read var1 var2
echo "$var1"
echo "$var2"

Both variable are empty, but if i run:
Code:
grep ">>" alarms_temp | awk '{print substr($5, 2), $7}'

I have:
Code:
0 9

as a result.

Strange, worked for me!!

Code:
 
TES>cat rem
sa >> sa sa 92020 kkk 0020120

TES>grep ">>" rem | awk '{print substr($5, 2), $7}' | read var1 var2
TES>echo $var1
2020
TES>echo $var2
0020120
