It (1) is an expression which (being 1) always evaluates to true (for which the default action is to print the whole line).

It's for people (like me) who are too lazy to type:

Code:
{ print }

Thanks scottn, and all of you.
i learnt a lot on the awk. i never know by using such a simple line can do this. before i always use perl file, while open and do the \sth\sth replace, then reput them into a string. Smilie[COLOR="#738fbf"]

the 1.txt file has more than 30k lines. so by using the awk, or the perl one line code it runs just 1 sec, but the old methold i am using cost me 20 secs more.

Code:
my $tmp3="";
open($FA, "1.txt") or die "$!";
$tmp3=",,".$tmp3;
while(<$FA>) {
        chomp;
       @tmp=split(/\t/, $_);
       $tmp3="$tmp3".trim($tmp[0]).",,";
}
sub trim
{
        my $tmp = shift;
        $tmp =~ s/^\s+//;
        $tmp =~ s/\s+$//;
        $tmp =~ s/^\?+//;
        $tmp =~ s/\?+$//;
        return $tmp;
}
