Question Monitoring system available time

Hi,

I am new to Unix. I have an application which i need to monitor it for the available system time. If the system is down, i need to send an email notifying the downtime. Can someone provide a sample code or shell script to perform the above activity.

Thanks

its much easier to monitor the uptime then it is the down time.

if you have any powermanagement software some of them will send an email when the system comes online and when the system is about to go offline.

otherwise you could make your own startup script that sits in rc3.d and sends an email to x user when the system boots.
