you right it doesn't work, alias doesn't support passing in $1 for some reason, but you can create a seperate function in your bash profile,

This should work

-bash-3.00$ cdfunc()
{
cd $1;ls $1
}
-bash-3.00$ alias cdls=cdfunc

Hi.

It will run the script in your current shell environment.

Without it, the cd would execute in another shell and would not change directory in your current environment.

The function solution from jacksona2 is a good one (with a slight fix):
Code:
-bash-3.00$ cdfunc()
{
cd $1;ls
}
-bash-3.00$ alias cdls=cdfunc

And if you have the function, you don't need the alias.
