multiple conditions in 'if clause'

Hi,

When i use the below code snippet in my shell script OFC_10.sh:
Code:
if  [  "$sync_cmpl" = "Y"  &&  "$sync_glbl" = "Y"    ]
then
    echo "Success"
 exit 2
elif  [   "$sync_cmpl" = "Y" &&  "$sync_glbl" = "N"    ]
 then
    echo "Failure"
 exit 6

I get the error message:
Code:
./OFC_10.sh: line 41: [: missing `]'
./OFC_10.sh: line 45: [: missing `]'

Line 41 is the line where If loop starts and line 45 is the line where elif loop starts.

I understand that this particular error message means i should have spaces between " and ] in the if clause. But I have given enough spacing between the two and still i am getting this error message.

Could any one please help.

Thanks,
Shruti

Use "-a" instead of "&&" and "-o" instead of "||".

"&&" is to combine commands (lists/pipelines) while what you want here is to combine test conditions.

Also try
Code:
if  [ "$sync_cmpl" = "Y" ] && [ "$sync_glbl" = "Y" ]

and
Code:
elif  [ "$sync_cmpl" = "Y" ] &&  [ "$sync_glbl" = "N" ]
