ftp error
While log in to ftp server with valid username & password I receive the following error. Please advice.

ftp: Login failed.
ftp: bind: Address already in use

cat .netric
machine hostnameofmachine login username password passwordstring

.netric file set to chmod 0600 $HOME/.netrc

Probably means that there was a connection to the local ftp port - the previous connection exited abnormally for whatever reason and left the port in a TIMED_WAIT state. This state persists for about 1 -4 minutes depending on your OS.

As a possible example - the previous ftp connection from your box was closed before it successfully completed by the remote host. Or by a connection error or some sort.

If a dim bulb user keeps abusing ftp it may stay in TIMED_WAIT for quite a while. Smilie
