Expect, save to file and remove before prompt

I have an Expect script which works very well. It logs into my remote routers and runs some commands and then to the next until finished. I need two things, first I need to save the output to a file from where the log_user 1 begins.
Code:
expect << EOF
set timeout 15
#set var "exit    "
match_max 10000
log_user 0
spawn telnet ${cisco}
expect "login: " { } \
timeout { send_user "<b><font color=red size=3>ERROR TELNET FAILED</font></b>\n" ; exit}
send "username\r"
expect "assword: "
send "pass\r"
expect "*#"
send "term len 0\r"
expect "*#"
send "term width 200\r"
expect "*#"
set timeout 180
log_user 1
send "$cmds\r"
expect "$end"
send "exit\r"
EOF

Next, is there a way to only send the user what is after the expect prompt? For example, only send what is after the #
Code:
[local]CISCOATLN#sh ip int loopback1
Just send user:
sh ip int loopback1

I found the answer to logging to a file for the sections I choose. Seemed pretty simple, just put the log_file command before the place I wish to have logged.
Code:
log_file $logfile

To stop logging, enter the command alone:
Code:
log_file
