Adding users
Anyone have a simple shell script that will prompt and accept screen input for each field that is required in the /etc/passwd file?

Do you mean just reading the values?

echo "Username?"
read username
echo "Home?"
read home

etc

Does this help?

No, I mean, I want to be prompted to enter the values myself, and then once the information is collected the script should append a passwd like entry to the file passwd.user in my home directory.

shouldnt be to hard and what sysera posted should have you well on your way to developing this application.

its just a bunch of read statements that put values into variables.

then use the adduser or what ever utility there is for your OS and use the variables to fill in the blanks.

why dont you code it and share it with us.

personaly id rather just make life simple and fill in the blanks w/ the utilities already there.

one day when im not feeling to lazy i will write the perl pages to do a bunch of these tasks over the web.

Adding a backslash to users' input
