Not only is ls unnecessary, it will break the script if any filenames contain spaces or other pathological characters. Use the wildcard directly:

However, if all you want to do is print the names of the files to another file, you don't need a loop:

How to get extension of a file in unix kshell

Hi,

How do I get extension of a file in a unix dir.

I need to code a script that finds out the extension of a file, say Rpt200.txt
. The result should fetch txt

Or if the file does not have an extension say Rtp200 how to know if it doesn't have an extension
