su - in a script

Hello!

I have the following part in a script:

Code:
cd /tmp && /sbin/startproc -v -q -s $saprouter_BIN -r -S3298 -R /adm/saprouter/saproutertab -K "p:CN=saprouter@`hostname`, OU=xxxx , O=xxxx, C=xx" -V 2 -T /tmp/saprouter.trace  -G /tmp/saprouter.log

This part has to be run as user admin, so i thought this would do it:

Code:
su - admin -c "cd /tmp && /sbin/startproc -v -q -s $saprouter_BIN -r -S3298 -R /adm/saprouter/saproutertab -K "p:CN=saprouter@`hostname`, OU=xxxx , O=xxxx, C=xx" -V 2 -T /tmp/saprouter.trace  -G /tmp/saprouter.log"

But now the double quote are not correct. It seems that i have now two parts in the string. How can i do that?

You have to escape the inner double quotes with a backslash:
Code:
su - admin -c "cd /tmp && /sbin/startproc -v -q -s $saprouter_BIN -r -S3298 -R /adm/saprouter/saproutertab -K \"p:CN=saprouter@`hostname`, OU=xxxx , O=xxxx, C=xx\" -V 2 -T /tmp/saprouter.trace  -G /tmp/saprouter.log"

OK. This is part of a init script and when i do that the service will not start.

OK, solved it in another way. I give startproc the option -u user, then it works. Thanks.
