Which quotos are you talking about.
iam trying this on linux system
Code:
dir=`date +%Y-%m-%d --date='1 day ago'`
find /home/uat/ -name $dir  -exec rm -rf {} \;
 or
dir=`date +%Y-%m-%d --date='1 day ago'`
find /home/uat/ -name "$dir"  -exec rm -rf {} \;

still getting the same error.

There's been another thread like this recently. The general solution is to let find finish with the directory before before deleting it. This is only a tweak to cfajohnson's script which has corrected the main issues.

Code:
dir=`date +%Y-%m-%d --date='1 day ago'`
find /home/uat/ -type d -name "$dir" -print | while read dir_found
do
        # Remove echo when you are happy with what will be deleted
        echo rm -rf "${dir_found}"
done

Good point. Add -depth to the find command:
Code:
find /home/uat/ -depth -name "$dir"  -exec rm -rf {} \;

Good team effort cfajohnson. Despite the number of posts we don't know the directory structure.
I still wouldn't delete the directory during the "find" because it makes "find" error on this Operating System (whatever it is?).

Revised post taking into account cfajohnson post.

Code:
dir=`date +%Y-%m-%d --date='1 day ago'`
find /home/uat/ -depth -type d -name "$dir" -print | while read dir_found
do
        # Remove echo when you are happy with what will be deleted
        echo rm -rf "${dir_found}"
done

Nor do we need to.

He is using Linux.

He should not be getting the error he posted with the script I posted. It looks as if he is including $dir in the path he is searching rather than as (or in addition to) an argument to the -name operand.

Yes cfajohnson that would make the process misbehave big time.

Iam working on Linux System.
Here is the scenario -
I just need to regulary (everyday) need to delete a folder of yesterdays date (Date format is - 2010-03-21) at a particular location called /home/uat.
Now this location contains some other folder as well for which i dont have permissiong to get in.
