You told that the directory deleted successfully na.... So this will not be exists anymore in the path. When you are trying to execute your script ...,now is trying to find and delete that /home/uat/2010-03-17 which is not at all there..
So that only it is saying find: /home/uat/2010-03-17: No such file or directory

i used the below code

dir=`date +%Y-%m-%d --date='1 day ago'`
find /home/uat -type d -name "$dir" -exec rm -rf {} \;

I got everythig what u r saying sir...but the thing is i need a defect free code..right...So that i can use it without any problem..

How to eliminate that error which iam getting..

If you want to suppress the unwanted errors means you can redirect the stderr to /dev/null.
The general format is
Code:
2>>/dev/null.

BUt this doesnt eliminate the error...
Hiding the error is not a good thing although.

Strange but this above particular code also give the the same message.
ERROR: find: /home/uat/2010-03-18: No such file or directory.

Although the directory and the files in it gets deleted but it give me the above message..
There must be something which is missing..

Are you keeping the quote in a loop?
