"For" and "While" - Different Shells

Hi all,

I have a problem with "for" and "while" in different shells.
I know "for" and "while" in bash and sh, but I can't find "for" in "csh"

Here are simple loops in bash and sh

BASH

"for"
Code:
#!/bin/bash
   for (( i=0 ; $i<=10 ; i++ )) ; do
   echo $i
done

"while"
Code:
#!/bin/bash
   i=0
   while [  $i -lt 10 ]; do
   echo $i
   let i=i+1
done

SH

"for"
Code:
#!/bin/sh
  for i in $(seq 1 10); do
  echo $i
done

"while"
Code:
#!/bin/sh
 i=0;
  while [ $i -le 10 ]; do
  i=$(($i+1));
  echo $i
done

And I have "while" loop in "csh"
CSH

"while"
Code:
#!/bin/csh
set i = 0
  while ( $i <= 100000 )
  echo $i
  @ i++
end

But, I can't find "for" loop in csh,
Could You help me ?

With thanks,
Physix.

Maybe you are looking for foreach:
Code:
#!/bin/csh
foreach i ( `jot 10 1` )
  echo $i
end

let and (( )) are same builtin command, works in bash, ksh, zsh, ...
Code:
let i=i+1
# or, I like this more, because you can use ex. spaces and so on - make more readable
(( i=i+1 ))
(( i = i + 1 ))
#in dash must to use command substitution i=$((i+1))

You can use builtin test ex.
Code:
while [ $var -lt 10 ]
# or
while (( var < 10 ))

Both are builtin, cpu using is same.

seq and jot are not built-ins and not always available.

For demonstrative purposes, I used jot because I don't have seq.

But that wasn't really the question being asked Smilie
