Shell Programming and Scripting

Hello all,
I am in a bit of dilema here. I want to implement a suite. it involves a lot of text file processing and shell scripts . which one to use perl or python ?

actually, currently we are using shell and awk. but we want to shift it. so pls tell me which will be best suited to replace awk and shell ?

you can't just shift it ...it is wonderful tools.
but to add value to your work I prefer perl.

Many years ago I preferred KSH and tools like awk.

Then I used used to prefer Perl for test processing and raved about Perl with passion, that was over 10 year ago.

But since most of my work involves the web, I have shifted to PHP, because PHP does great text processing and so much more.

If PHP is not an option for you, then I recommend Perl for processing text.

PS: I have never really programmed in Python, but I have heard great things about it. The choice is really what you like and what works for you, not what we like and not what others like.

Some guys love Bash, others love Perl, others love PHP.. another might love Python. It's really up to you, not up to us to debate and make a decision like this for you.
