Restrict modification of a file while it is already in use by another user?
How to restrict modification of a file while it is already in use by another user?

If a file is in use by one user account, how to restrict it so that no one else can change it until its closed by the first user?

use 'fuser' to determine if any process has the file open.

i need to restrict other users from opening the file.

The standard output of

Code:
fuser -f filename

is the pid number of any process that has the file open.

so
