help redirecting output from mailbot

Hello...I'm having problems redirecting output from a script from a mailbot. It is a perl script that has the email sent to op_shipper piped into it.

I am receiving the email with sendmail and here is what my alias looks like for the script am I having problems with in /etc/aliases:

op_shippers: "| /u1/app/shippers/bin/parse_shipper.pl > /u1/app/shippers/bin/logs/apps.log 2>&1"

If I remove the redirection the script works fine but if I have it in there the script doesn't seem to do anything. Anyone have any ideas to get some output from this script in case it doesn't work sometimes?

thanks!

First change the alias so that
op_shippers: op_shippers, |/u1/app/shippers/bin/parse_shipper.ksh

This will do two things, it will give you copy of the email in op_shippers mail box, and the logs that you want can be created by having parse_shipper.ksh contain
Code:
parse_shipper.pl >log 2>&1

thanks for the reply. I ended up setting it up how you mentioned but the script is not working. It seems like the attachment is being lost after piping it in to the shell script. Do I need to add another redirector like < to pipe the attachment into the perl from the shell script?

The email is the standard input of the .ksh script.
So a simple script like:

Code:
while read a
do
 echo $a >>/tmp/testoutput.txt
done

would append the email including header records to the file testoutput.txt
If the email has an attachment, do you have to decode the attachment first?
