Need help with an if statement

#alvin lee
#this is a program that searches for a pattern in a directory, and all of its
#sub directories

if [ 2>$# ]
then
echo 'Usage: grepdir.sh directory pattern [-grep option]'
exit 1
fi
ls $1* | grep $2 $3 $4 $5 $6 $7

the
if [ 2>$# ] doesnt work, i currently have it set to
if [$# -eq 0], but i want it to include cases 0 and 1

dude what was your problem???? if solved, please close the thread instead of updating something that does not make sense..

You are missing spaces,
Code:
if [ $# -lt 2 ] 
then
echo 'Usage: grepdir.sh directory pattern [-grep option]'
exit 1
fi

Note: '[' is a command and so it requires arguments like other commands. So a space is mandatory.

I suppose $1 is the directory and $2,$3.. are the patterns
then you can do a find for recursive search

If you want to search for each pattern separately then

find $1 -type f -exec grep -e $2 -e $3 -e $4 {} \;

Otherwise ,
your own code,
Code:
find $1 -type f -exec grep '$1$2$3$4' {} \;
