Using AIX 6.1 box with GNU bash installed, and native AIX csh implementation.
I want to use command like this (example only but structure of real command is the same):

bash-3.2$ echo `expr \`expr 1 + 2\` + 3`
6

Code:

# echo `expr \`expr 1 + 2\` + 3`
Unmatched `.

As you can see using GNU bash command works ok, while csh fails. Somehow it can't escape ` character if nested like that. Any ideas to achieve the same result as with bash ?
(of course I can split it in two commands using vars, but maybe there is a way to do these nested escapes in csh)

You could try something like this:

As you probably already know, the csh family is not recommended for scripting ...
