Hmmm would that not break though if for instance file 1 would be:

a b f z

and file 2

a f y x z

I am guessing it would catch the a's but the f's and z's are in different positions?

Might be misreading this completely though :-)

It would if that were the case. But I don't think that is so, seeing as the OP himself is using only the first fields of these files.
