mail or sendmail ?

I need to send emails using a shell script on linux. I want to use the most widespread method (the preferred method). Is one considered deprecated in favor of the other? Which, mail or sendmail ?

Now, without trying to favor mail in the first question: How can I include a From: mail field in this shell command? I want it all in one line Smilie

"mail" is a MUA - Mail User Agent (like Outlook, Thunderbird)
"sendmail" is a MTA - Mail Transfer Agent (Exchange, Kerio, Qmail)

If you have access to the sendmail binary, you CAN use it to send mail.

It sounds to me like you'd be better off using "mutt" or cleanCode Email: CleanCode Email
