Another one with awk:

Code:
echo "Nov 9 11:35:28 2009"|
awk -F" |:" '
BEGIN {
  a="Jan,Feb,Mar,Apr,May,Jun,Jul,Aug,Sep,Oct,Nov,Dec"
  split(a,m,",")
  for(i=1;i<13;i++)
    n[m[i]]=i
}
{printf("%s%02d%02d%s%s\n", $6, n[$1], $2, $3, $4)}

Another awk solution:
Code:
echo "Nov 9 11:35:28 2009" | awk -F '[ \t:]' '
{
   printf("%04d%02d%02d%s%s\n", $6, (index("JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec",$1)+2)/3, $2, $3, $4)
}'
