Thanls for the answer.
how can I assign the returned value to other varriable.
like s=$ echo $d|awk '{print substr($0,2,5)}'

typeset -xL5 s=$(echo $d|awk '{print substr($0,2,5)}')
# 5

or else you can use expr substr command
e.g. `expr substr $var 1 2`

var=`ur command`

Run any command in the back quotes. the return value of this command will be assigned to the variable var.
