Cron job vanishes if i disconnect the session upruptly

Cron job vanishes if i disconnect the session upruptly
Hi

Am logging in to the server as root.
Using the export EDITOR=vi option before editing the cron file
editing the crontab entry using crontab -e option
the additional jobs which i added can be seen immediately, but when i disconnect the session upruptly the cron entry vanishes the next time i login and see
OS : Solaris 8
what could be the issue?

What do you mean by that ?!

Only the newer job get vanished, or all ? I take it as newer job get vanished, if yes, it is because you have not saved it ! So, that is normal.

Yes ..newer jobs only vanishes...
am saving it with :wq!

even then it vanishes..

What is outcome of the following ?

1. When you exit the vim editor, it is likely to say.,

crontab: installing new crontab

2. What does your syslog ( debian, check your equivalent ) says.,

cron: BEGIN EDIT
cron: END EDIT

Nothing like that ..is coming up after editing and saving the file...

I can see the saved cron entries....but it vanishes after uprupt disconnection.
