Hi

I need help with a script to read certain strings from a file, the content is as below.

File A
=====
grant select on *.* TO 'root'@'localhost' identified by password 'sfsdfsdfsd';


I need all the words between grant and TO in to a new file.
I also need the value right next to the key word TO in the above line into a new file.

There are a group of grant statements in my input file.

Can some one please help. Thank you.

How many lines in the file? If there are only a few, you don't need an external command:

does the shell close the file descriptors automatically when it exits?

The file has mutiple lines which needs to be parsed to get the out put as desired

Thank you for the reply. The command works fine to get the out put as

[GRANT select ON *.*] ['atlrep'@'10.8.5.%']

Can you please help me the same command as two induvidual commands to get the output directed to 2 new files. Where i need to further parse them.

i still think the file descriptors should be closed explicitly.
